The course sits at the intersection of systems thinking and contemporary agrifood dynamics. Students enter the course with solid grounding in European agricultural policy, business strategy, and the economics of the wine industry. Moving from there, they will turn their analytical lens towards the complexity faced by the agrifood sector today: the feedback structures, disruption forces, and governance failures that shape the food and wine systems they will work in and that impact heavily the the sector they will inhabit as professionals.The class will include a team project task focused on selected regions. By reading specific territories as a systems, students develop transferable skills for analysing any agrifood region. The course balances frontal lectures with team-based systems analysis and plenary sessions. It culminates in team presentations on Thursday the 28th of May and an individual exam (pen and paper, duration : 60 minutes) based on three open questions related to the readings assigned during classes, the slides used by the professor and the contents of the team projects.

- articulate the conditions under which sustainable wine tourism can function as a resilience mechanism rather than an extractive overlay.
- apply core systems thinking frameworks — causal loop diagrams, the iceberg model, stocks and flows, leverage points — to real agrifood challenges
- analyze the major disruption forces affecting the contemporary agrifood sector, including climate change, financialisation, supply chain fragility, and consumer dynamics.
- relate a wine territory as a socio-ecological system, identifying its actors, flows, feedback loops, and structural vulnerabilities.
- appraise leverage points within a complex system and propose multi-level interventions with honest treatment of trade-offs.
- support systemic analysis clearly in both visual (causal loop diagram) and written forms.

Plan / Sommaire
Day one (8 hours): basics of systems thinking, team workshop, application of systems thinking to agrifood systems with particular attention to climate change, generational transition, sustainaibility of agrifood sectors, team project launch
Day 2 (4 hours) : minisessions on the subtopics (climate change, generational passage and systainaiblity of tourism) and mini-pitches.
Day 3 (4 hours): team projects of the system-level feedback loops and leverage points, pitches of policies and initiatives to increase the resilience of agrifood sectors in selected areas, connection of the pitches in a final workshop.
