Descriptif
This course aims to address questions of strategy and the challenges strategic thinking faces in a complex, global setting. It is designed in such a way that three different lecturers will tackle various aspects of the topic, each in their area of expertise.Ksenija Djuricic will approach strategy building from a foresight perspective. No strategy can be discussed or developed without considering forward thinking. To explore the issue of strategy building, students will work on a fictitious case study of a company that needs to rethink its strategy. Using foresight methods and tools, students will assess the socio-economic system in which the company operates, the challenges and threats it faces, and the opportunities available to it. Consequently, students will be tasked with making strategic choices and critically informing the decision-making process of the company's executive board as they rethink their strategy.
The second part of the course ran by Pietro Beltramello provides essential knowledge about the primary components shaping the international business global environment. As the world becomes increasingly complex, managers need to approach internationalization strategies with a comprehensive understanding of the macro-systems within which international businesses operate. This section covers the foundational aspects of globalization, international trade and economics, geopolitics, and sustainability science, equipping future managers with the knowledge needed to understand and navigate business in the evolving global landscape.
The final section covered by Sila Ocalan-Ozel is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on strategic decision-making in international business, covering tools like PESTEL analysis for evaluating external factors, the CAGE framework for assessing market distances, foreign market entry strategies, and the Integration-Responsiveness framework for balancing global efficiency with local adaptation. The second part addresses ethical considerations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, and Governance in international operations, emphasizing their importance for responsible and effective global business practices.
